Delaware, the second smallest state in the United States, is rich in history, as well as agriculture and industry. Delaware is called The First State, appropriate because it was the first to the 13 colonies to ratify the Constitution of the United States.

Take a look into Delaware's colonial past at sites like the Read House and Gardens. A magnificent mansion, that exemplifies the furnishings and architecture of the past. Woodburn, the Govenor's House in Dover, built in 1798 can also be seen at open houses four times a year. The Hendrickson House Museum in Wilmington is located on the grounds of Old Swedes Church. A terrific look at common house hold items and furnishings dating back to the 1600's.

Today, Delaware is home to all the arts, culture and entertainment anyone could ask for. The calendar is full of fun activities and events, all across the state. Wilmington hosts Mother's Day Tea at the Cauffiel House. A beautiful setting for tea, followed by a guided tour of the home. Bellevue State Park holds lunchtime concerts April through early fall, featuring a variety of musical genres and terrific artists. A great break in the day to relax in the park and enjoy some music.

The Diamond State Baseball Club is Delaware's amateur 19th century vintage baseball team. The Club hosts the First State 19th Century Baseball Festival, in May, at Fort Dupont State Park in Delaware City. One of the largest vintage baseball festivals in the county, fans will see how baseball was originally played. From the uniforms to the rules and customs, even the team name reflects 1865 base ball. Fans can catch regular season games April through September at Fort Delaware State Park as well.

The Delaware Beaches warm up with activity early in the season. Enjoy the spring beach weather at the 21st Annual Ocean to Bay Bike Tour, Saturday April, 17th. Choose 20, 35, or 50 mile routes that begin and end in Bethany Beach. Stick around, new for 2010 there will be music and festivities after the race.

Runners, Rehoboth and Dewey Beaches host nine running events from May through September. Both 10k and 5k events are included and walkers are welcome. A great excuse to come to the beach and enjoy the weekend.

Bring the family to Rehoboth Beach the first weekend in August for the 32nd Annual Sandcastle Contest, at the north end of the beach. The 8th Annual Classic Catering 5K is the next day. Make it a full weekend of fun. No need for a special event, with fabulous beaches, a fun boardwalk, and lots of shopping any time is a good time to visit Rehoboth Beach. Historically a great family destination, Rehoboth Beach continues that tradition today.
